Terms of Service
Last updated: 1 November 2026 · Governing law: England and Wales
1. About EnglishPerfect
EnglishPerfect is an online marketplace operated by EP Education Ltd (trading as EnglishPerfect), a company registered in England and Wales (“we”, “us”, “our”). We connect students preparing for the International English Language Testing System (“IELTS”) with independently vetted IELTS teachers for live, one-to-one lessons delivered through our in-product classroom.
EnglishPerfect is a marketplace platform only. Teachers are independent contractors, not employees or agents of EP Education Ltd. We do not deliver teaching services ourselves.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, booking a lesson, applying to teach, or otherwise using EnglishPerfect, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”) and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Where changes are material, we will notify you by email or by a prominent notice on the platform. Continued use after notice constitutes acceptance.
3. Eligibility
- Students must be at least 16 years old. Students under 18 require a parent or legal guardian to provide consent at the time of each booking.
- Teachers must have a minimum of 10 years' IELTS teaching experience and demonstrate significant, verifiable IELTS expertise. They must pass our vetting process — including an IELTS scoring exercise — before their profile is published.
- You must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract in your country of residence.
- You must not be located in a jurisdiction subject to UK, US, or EU sanctions.
4. Account Registration
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and keep it updated.
One person may hold only one account. Creating duplicate accounts, or creating an account on behalf of another person without their knowledge, is prohibited.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that we reasonably believe are fraudulent, duplicated, or in breach of these Terms.
5. Student Terms
Booking a Lesson
When you select a lesson type and time slot, a booking hold is created for 10 minutes while you complete payment. If payment is not completed within that window, the hold is released and the slot becomes available to other students.
A binding booking is formed only when payment has been successfully processed by Stripe and confirmed by our system. You will receive a confirmation email at that point.
Parental Consent for Students Under 18
If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must complete the consent declaration at checkout before payment can proceed. By doing so, the parent or guardian agrees to these Terms on the student’s behalf and accepts responsibility for all bookings made from that account.
Joining the Classroom
The classroom opens 10 minutes before your scheduled lesson start time. You are responsible for having a stable internet connection, functioning audio and video, and a suitable environment for learning. Technical difficulties on the student’s side do not entitle the student to a refund.
AI Writing Feedback
When you submit an IELTS Writing task, an initial band-score estimate and rubric notes are generated by an AI model (Anthropic Claude). This AI draft is then reviewed and finalised by a qualified teacher before being returned to you. The final feedback represents the teacher’s professional assessment, not solely the AI output. We do not guarantee that AI-generated or teacher-reviewed scores reflect an official IELTS result.
Conduct in the Classroom
You must treat teachers with respect. Recording, reproducing, or distributing classroom sessions without the explicit written consent of your teacher is prohibited. Abusive, discriminatory, or sexually inappropriate behaviour will result in immediate account suspension.
6. Teacher Terms
Independent Contractor Status
Teachers using EnglishPerfect are independent contractors. Nothing in these Terms creates an employment, agency, joint venture, or partnership relationship between EP Education Ltd and any teacher. Teachers are solely responsible for their own tax obligations arising from earnings received through the platform.
Vetting and Profile Publication
All teacher applications are reviewed by EnglishPerfect. Approval requires verified credentials, a completed scoring exercise, and satisfactory completion of our identity verification process. We reserve the right to refuse or revoke approval at our sole discretion, including in response to student feedback, session data, or conduct concerns.
Setting Availability and Pricing
Teachers set their own availability windows and lesson prices. By publishing availability, teachers commit to honouring bookings confirmed within those windows. Last-minute cancellations by teachers are recorded and may affect a teacher’s access status.
Access Status
EnglishPerfect operates an automated quality control system based on rolling student reviews (Punctuality, Material Quality, and Delivery) and conduct flags. Teachers whose rolling average falls below threshold, or who accumulate conduct flags, may be moved to probation or suspended. Suspended teachers’ future availability is frozen and pending bookings are automatically refunded. Teachers may appeal via our support email.
Stripe Connect Onboarding
To receive payouts, teachers must complete Stripe Connect Express onboarding and provide accurate identity and banking information to Stripe. EnglishPerfect does not store bank account details. Stripe’s own terms and identity requirements apply and are beyond our control.
Conduct Standards
Teachers must not contact students outside of the EnglishPerfect platform for commercial purposes, solicit off-platform payments, or share student personal data with third parties. Violation of these obligations may result in immediate suspension and legal action.
7. Payments and Platform Fees
All payments are processed by Stripe. By making a booking, you agree to Stripe’s terms of service.
EnglishPerfect charges a 33% platform fee on each transaction. The remaining 67%is transferred to the teacher’s Stripe Connect account, net of any applicable Stripe processing fees.
Prices displayed on teacher profiles are inclusive of the platform fee — students pay the price shown; teachers receive their share automatically.
We reserve the right to adjust the platform fee rate with 30 days’ notice to teachers. The rate in effect at the time of booking applies to that booking.
Restricted Countries
For compliance and legal reasons, we are unable to accept payments from cards issued in certain jurisdictions. Students whose card is issued in a restricted country will be automatically refunded and their booking cancelled.
8. Cancellation and Refunds
Student Cancellations
Once a booking is confirmed, our standard policy is no refund. We strongly recommend checking all lesson details before payment. In exceptional circumstances (e.g. documented medical emergency), contact us within 24 hours of the scheduled lesson.
Teacher No-Shows and Short Delivery
If a teacher fails to join the classroom within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time, or delivers significantly less than the booked lesson duration, a full refund will be issued automatically to the student and the teacher will not receive their payout for that session.
Platform-Initiated Cancellations
If EnglishPerfect suspends a teacher and cancels their future bookings as a result, affected students will receive a full automatic refund to their original payment method within 5–10 business days.
Technical Issues
Refunds for technical failures are assessed case by case. A refund is not guaranteed where the technical issue is on the student’s side (device, internet connection, or browser). Where our platform or the Daily.co video service is demonstrably at fault, we will issue a full or partial refund at our discretion.
9. Intellectual Property
All content on EnglishPerfect — including lesson materials published in our Library, platform design, and software — is owned by or licensed to EP Education Ltd and is protected by UK and international intellectual property law.
Essay submissions made by students remain the student’s own intellectual property. By submitting an essay, you grant EnglishPerfect a limited, non-exclusive licence to process and display that essay solely for the purpose of delivering the writing feedback service. We do not use student essay submissions to train AI models.
Teachers retain ownership of lesson materials they create. By publishing materials through the platform, teachers grant EnglishPerfect a limited licence to display those materials to enrolled students.
10. AI-Generated Content
EnglishPerfect uses Anthropic’s Claude AI model to produce draft IELTS Writing feedback. This output is reviewed by a qualified teacher before being finalised. We make no warranty that AI-generated content is free from error. AI-generated band scores are estimates only and do not constitute official IELTS results.
Anthropic’s usage policies apply to all AI interactions on the platform. Users must not attempt to manipulate, circumvent, or abuse the AI systems.
11. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Impersonate any person or misrepresent your identity or qualifications.
- Use the platform for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these Terms.
- Attempt to circumvent payment or arrange off-platform lessons with a teacher you met through EnglishPerfect.
- Upload, transmit, or share content that is defamatory, obscene, harassing, or infringes third-party intellectual property rights.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or otherwise attempt to extract data or source code from the platform.
- Interfere with the operation of the platform or its infrastructure.
- Use the AI feedback system to generate content for purposes other than your own IELTS preparation.
12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
EnglishPerfect is provided “as is”. We do not guarantee that the platform will be available at all times, error-free, or that lessons will result in a specific IELTS band score.
To the fullest extent permitted by English law, EP Education Ltd’s total liability to any user arising from or related to these Terms shall not exceed the total amount paid by that user to EnglishPerfect in the 12 months preceding the claim.
We are not liable for the conduct, quality, or accuracy of any teacher, for any disruption caused by third-party services (Stripe, Daily.co, Anthropic), or for any indirect or consequential loss.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from or related to these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Before bringing a formal claim, we encourage users to contact us at hello@englishperfect.org to attempt informal resolution.
14. Termination
You may close your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you breach these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or if we are required to do so by law.
Upon termination, outstanding confirmed bookings will be honoured or refunded as appropriate. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, limitation of liability, and governing law) will continue to apply.
